BROWARD COUNTY, FLA. – Century Ambulance Service, in conjunction with Broward County, Florida Department of Health (FDOH-Broward) and American Medical Response (AMR) have stepped up to the challenge of expanding the County’s COVID-19 testing efforts by creating a mobile/in-home testing program.
On Wednesday, May 6, the program launched to provide testing for homebound elderly or individuals with disabilities who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and cannot leave their homes to access one of the drive-up or walk-up test collection sites.
Century and AMR are providing vehicles and health professionals to collect up to 12 nasopharyngeal and/or oropharyngeal swabs per day, with the capacity to ramp up staffing to complete up to 25 tests per day. Specimens are being transported, according to professional standards, to the Department of Health in Broward daily. Century and AMR are following all infection control recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
FDOH-Broward is managing the overall testing process, providing training to the collection teams, and notifying residents of test results, as well as conducting contact tracing for those individuals that test positive for COVID-19.
“This expanded testing program is a perfect example of how partners can come together and contribute collaboratively to initiatives that move our response to this public health crisis forward, to a healthier community and quicker economic recovery,” said Broward County Administrator Bertha Henry.
Century is dedicated to the community it serves and is honored to be a part of the collaborative innovation necessary to achieve a return to normal.
