The holidays are for spending time together with family, not germs. Make sure this season you are protected against the flu and continue to take measures to ensure your health. As Covalent Health staff and crews prepare for the coldest months of the year, please remember that keeping yourself healthy helps others stay healthy as well.
Here are some steps you can take to make sure you are prepared to fight the flu:
Get Your Flu Shot
The first and best way to prevent yourself from getting the flu this year is to get the flu vaccine. There are multiple retail pharmacies that offer free or special discounts for flu shots during the season.
Wash Your Hands
Good personal hygiene is always a must when working around other employees or patients, but is especially important during flu season. Washing your hands frequently and adopting sanitary behaviors can keep both you and the ones near you happy and healthy.
Avoid Touching Your Face
Another sanitary behavior includes not touching your face frequently while working. Germs can be transferred from your hands to your face and visa versa, including dirt, oils, and even dead skin cells.
Eat Healthy Foods
Probably the hardest part of the holidays is remembering to balance out all that turkey and pie with some fruits and vegetables. Having a healthy diet can boost your immune system and help fight off some untimely illnesses.
Sneeze or Cough Into Your Elbow
The simplest thing you can do to avoid spreading illness is to cover your mouth and nose when you feel a cough or sneeze coming on by using the inside of your elbow. Just remember to wash your arm and clothing as soon as possible afterwards.
Stay Home If You Are Sick
While holiday hours might be tempting, staying home when you are sick will help you recover faster by getting plenty of rest and fluids. This will also keep your coworkers from getting ill and further spreading the virus.
